Lorenzo Gasperoni is an Italian percussionist, producer, and educator with over 25 years of international experience in world music, jazz, and contemporary projects. He is the artistic director of Mamud Band and the cultural association Karamogo, and a permanent member of the Artchipel Orchestra.

Lorenzo has extensively studied and performed traditional percussion from West Africa (Mali, Guinea, Senegal, Benin, Ivory Coast), Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Maghreb, Indian, and Arabian traditions. He trained at the Conservatory “F.E. Dall’Abaco” in Verona and at the ISA – Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana, Cuba, specializing in Afro-Cuban percussion.

He has collaborated in the studio and on stage with renowned artists such as Stewart Copeland (Gizmodrome)Lester BowieTony AllenFred Wesley, and Gege Telesforo. His recording career includes numerous albums with Mamud Band and Artchipel Orchestra, as well as soundtracks for films by directors such as Silvio Soldini and Antonio Boccola.

As an educator, Lorenzo has taught Afro-American and Afrocentric percussion practices at leading conservatories, including Conservatorio Arrigo Pedrollo in Vicenza, Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan, and Conservatorio Arrigo Boito in Parma*. He has led workshops and masterclasses across Europe, Africa, Canada, and the USA, focusing on the rhythmic traditions and polyrhythmic structures of African and Caribbean music.

Today, Lorenzo works from his own recording studio, featuring a large live room dedicated to the recording and production of authentic world percussion. His work continues to bridge traditional and contemporary sounds, combining deep rhythmic knowledge with a modern production sensibility.
